Premier Hotels & Resorts’ flagship KwaZulu-Natal development is prominently located within the vibrant Umhlanga Ridge precinct, one of South Africa’s fastest-growing commercial, residential and tourism destinations. Positioned close to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, major business hubs and King Shaka International Airport, the development was strategically conceived to serve both business and leisure travellers while capitalising on exceptional regional connectivity. The development comprises two integrated hotel offerings within a single hospitality precinct: the 121-key, four-star Premier Hotel Umhlanga and the adjoining 63-key, three-star Splendid Inn Umhlanga. Together, the hotels provide a comprehensive guest experience, featuring modern conferencing facilities accommodating up to 400 delegates, restaurants, fitness facilities, a swimming pool and panoramic ocean views from every room. The development presented significant management challenges, including close coordination of consultants, contractors and stakeholders, together with the successful navigation of contractor insolvency during construction. Through proactive leadership and rigorous project controls, Key Projects delivered a landmark hospitality destination that contributes significantly to tourism growth and business activity in the greater Umhlanga region. The completed development strengthens Premier Hotels & Resorts’ national portfolio while establishing a world-class accommodation and conferencing destination on South Africa’s east coast.
